Baking bread is an art. This is an art that I have not quite figured out...I have had some great attempts, but I really want to figure this one out. Bread has been a staple of so many cultures and generations. It is something I want to master, and then pass on to the next generation. This was my attempt at making French bread several months ago. Do you have a favorite? Do you have bread baking advice?
I will succeed! Mwhoo HHaa HHHaaa!
As I enter into what I consider to be the "second half" of my life, I will talk about places I want to go, places I am going to, and places I have gone to, including everything from great meals, recipies, gatherings, trips, and anything in between...

Natures Candy…
Once again my stop at Van Pelts market produced another treasure of local bounty! No sugar needed for these amazing blackberries and sun ripened local peaches! The fruit just melts in your mouth, and I cannot help but think of all the benefits that not only are being provided to my taste buds and my body! I am trying to focus on now, but I keep thinking about not having these wonderful treats in the winter! I will enjoy them while I can !

Local Bounty
One of my favorite things about summer and early fall is the opportunity to buy and cook local...My favorite place to stop almost daily when I can, is VanPelts market. VanPelts is a local , family owned farmers market that is owned and operated by a conservative Mennonite family. I love going and deciding what I will make for supper based on what fresh produce is available that day.
In the summer I love a strange looking vegetable called kohlrabi (see photos below)- I love to slice it into squares and eat it raw, dipped in hummus or with a little Kosher salt sprinkled on it. In the fall they have sweet fingerling potatoes, that I leave the skin on , slice into quarter size pieces, toss in olive oil and bake! Throughout the season the choices change , the prices are reasonable and everything is so fresh! I bought red baby potatoes the other day that were harvested out of the rich soil that very morning! That is something that just doesn't happen at Giant Eagle...
One of the hardest parts about winter is not having the fresh, local goods available. This may be one reason I always dream about moving somewhere warm!
Take the time to buy local if you have the opportunity, it is great for your health, your pallete and your pocketbook! (I am not sure what made me use that word, it sound so old fashioned, and I never say it! I think I will leave it in though!)
Peace.

Welcome!
Welcome to my new blog! I am creating this blog to signify what I am considering to be the entry into the "second half" of my life...Of course, i never really will know when that exact moment will be, but if I live to be 84, that seems good to me!
I still have the original blog, which will remain more personal. This one will have more of a focus! One of my favorite things about the "first half" of my life is the opportunities I have had to experience travel, food, and time with friends gathered around food, and beautiful people and locations. The focus of the blog will be just that.
The title, Go...Going...Gone is referring to places I want to go, am planning on going, and have been. If you scroll down the right side of the page, you will see places I have been, eaten at, or enjoyed good company. I will add to the list often, as I find photos, or have memories, of. During several of my travels I have kept a travel journal, and I will randomly post excerpts from them. I will also post fond travel, or meal memories. If you have any fond travel memories, or memories of us sharing food together, please comment! I would love to be reminded of those precious times!
As I begin this journey into the "second half" of my life, I hope to have many more to share. Look at this blog as a place to hear about those times, gain novice restaurant or travel reviews, and experiences that I have surrounding food and travel!
I hope you enjoy, and I hope to have many times shared with you around food, and beautiful places.
